Ecological Impact Assessments

Windfarm

Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA) is defined by IEEM as "the process of identifying, quantifying and evaluating the potential impacts of defined actions on ecosystems or their components".

EcIA can be undertaken as part of Environmental Impact Assessments required for certain developments under the Town and Country Planning (Environmental Impact Assessment) (England and Wales) Regulations 1999 or as part of an impact assessment in relation to protected species or habitats.

The Wildlife Survey Unit has experience of undertaking EcIA for developments such as large-scale housing developments, road schemes, proposed wind farms and mixed-use developments.

All EcIA undertaken follows the methodology and structure detailed in the IEEM publication Guidelines for Ecological Impact Assessment.
