Peter is the Company Director of the the Wildlife Survey Unit Ltd.
He began his career as a professional ecologist in 2002, working for several ecological consultancy firms, before setting up the company in 2009. He has had a lifelong interest in natural history, flora and fauna.
He is a skilled ornithologist, bird recorder for the Highlands, a BTO "C" permit bird ringer and holds a licence to survey Schedule 1 bird species in Scotland. He has travelled widely throughout the Western Palearctic and further afield in the Caribbean, North America, the Middle East, Southeast Asia and Siberia on ornithological trips and as a guide.
He regularly works offshore in the UK, surveying sites for proposed renewable energy schemes, and he is a qualified European Seabirds at Sea (ESAS) seabird and Marine Mammal Observer (MMO). He holds an uptodate offshore medical and a Personal Survival Skills certificate for survival at sea.
He has an excellent working knowledge of the protected species of the UK, particularly mammals, reptiles, amphibians and higher plants. He holds an SNH licence for Bats (all species), Pine Marten and Great Crested Newt. He has also held European Protected Species licences for Bats and SNH development licences for Badgers.
An important aspect of the company is its carbon balancing of day to day activities and its real emphasis on conservation gains through development.
Nick is a freelance GIS specialist who provides GIS mapping capabilities and expertise to the company.
He is an experienced user of ESRI ArcGIS and extensions, with knowledge of a variety other platforms including Idrisi, MapInfo, and Quantum GIS.
