Camera trapping in Scotland
The Wildlife Survey Unit Ltd are experienced operators of camera traps and their use in ecological surveying. We offer surveys for the following species:
Camera trapping can be very useful in determining the level of use of a structure (sett/holt/den) and thus what level of legal protection it is entitled. It is vital to define use, presence or absence when it comes to Ecological Impact Assessment. Camera trapping is sometimes the only effective tool to survey for nocturnal or shy and elusive animals. It is cost effective and provides concrete evidence and data.
Camera trapping can also be used to inform the success of any mitigation schemes, to monitor use and to see whether the mitigation has been successful.
The latest camera traps use split second trigger mechanisms and black flash, meaning the animal is not disturbed at all during the operation of the trap.
