Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) in Scotland

The Wildlife Survey Unit Ltd provide Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) services for construction and development sites. This service applies across Scotland including the Highlands, Moray, Aberdeenshire, Argyll, Perthshire, Angus, Dumfries and Galloway and the Central belt. 

These services are to provide on-site ecological advice and expertise and include:

• Provision of toolbox talks to contractors pre-works.
  
• Monitoring of protected sites and species pre- and post-works.
  
• Supervision of vegetation clearance, nest searches and avoidance of disturbance to breeding birds
• Destructive searches for reptiles pre ground clearance
• Prevention of pollution to watercourses
• Ensuring compliance with EPS licenses and mitigation

Staff hold white "professionally qualified person" CSCS cards to allow them to work on construction sites.

Previous ECoW role's undertaken by the company include:

• A9 widening - Birnam to Dunkeld: Supervision of geological drilling - protection of adjacent SAC's.

• Electricity Pylon refurbishment Helensburgh, Glasgow - Supervision of works in relation to Schedule 1 bird species.
