Red Squirrel Survey

Red Squirrel, Sciurus vulgaris, is the only native squirrel species in the UK, found in an increasingly smaller area of the UK, due to competition and disease from it's American cousin the Grey Squirrel Sciurus carolinensis. Red Squirrels are protected by their inclusion on schedules 5 and 6 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 (As amended).

Survey types offered include:

  • Collate available desk records from the Local Biological Records Centre
  • Initial survey and habitat appraisal
  • Visual survey
  • Hair tube survey
